Over the next several months we will be studying Marshall Rosenberg's book Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life. This, to me, is a fascinating and powerful book for it helps us to look at the ways we communicate that hurt others as well as ourselves.
I think we often communicate in a hurtful way without realizing that we are doing so. This is partly because we learn to do so from when we were small children and it is so common in our society that we think it is the only way to express ourselves.
But there is another way--a more life-afirming way. It is not an easy way, no habits are easy to change. But it can be done and I hope that by the time we have finished this book study I will have learned to be a more compassionate communicator.
